Bonanno: A Godfather's Story

Martin Landau stars in 1999's sprawling, two part cable biopic of New York Mafia don Joseph Bonanno, who has long been considered the inspiration for Mario Puzo's Vito Corleone.
In Part 1 of the film, based on Bonanno's autobiography, the elderly mobster (Landau) recalls in flashbacks how he was drawn to the world of organized crime. While selling bootleg liquor during Prohibition, the orphan Bonanno finds a substitute "family" after his cool head for business attracts the patronage of godfather Salvatore Maranzano (Edward James Olmos). Soon after Bonanno finds himself rising through the ranks. Young Bonanno: Bruce Ramsay.
